Sheelagh Ratliff and Núria Sintes

Owner and Director

Biniarroca is a charming rural hotel outside Sant Lluís. The building was originally what is known in Menorca as a lloc, an old 18th century farmhouse used for agriculture and livestock. In the 1990s, Sheelagh Ratliff, following her fashion career in London, decided to convert the space into rural lodging while respecting its traditional Menorcan architecture. Working along side her is Hotel Director Núria Sintes, who has been involved with the house for nearly her entire life.

The hotel has 18 rooms, a gastro-restaurant and a garden with two swimming pools. A space designed as a getaway to enjoy its authentic rustic essence with the most modern comforts, all managed by an international staff that has been working together for over 17 years.

This little family has ably found a way to create a transversally sustainable project. For example, the house is self-supplied by 100 photovoltaic solar panels and has incorporated efficient energy and water usage through its facilities. They have eliminated plastics and even have their own ecological vegetable garden to supply their restaurant with fresh and local produce. The garden, with its autochthonous plant species, is fertilised with self-produced compost, and now operational is their traditional rainwater catchment system.

“We aim to have a positive impact environmentally, socially and economically, which implies offering return through hotel and restaurant operation while providing visitors with an introduction to much of what is genuinely Menorcan.”
