MEET THE CENTRAL FIGURES
Catalina Allès
Owner of Lluriach
Nina and Joan belong to the fifth generation of farmers in Lluriach, one of the oldest farms of the island. Their family already worked these lands when wheat was the most cultivated crop in Menorca. With the transformation of the crops and the transition towards dairy cattle farming came the Mahón-Menorca Protected Designation of Origin cheese production, which has been artisanally produced on this farm for generations. Now they also produce one of the best artisan yogurts of the island.
Lluriach yogurt is made with fresh milk obtained exclusively from the farm’s cows. Its artisanal production is made without fermenter, by using residual heat from the pasteurization process. The packaging and labelling are 100% reusable and recyclable, as the practice of returning the packages to the store has been recovered. All you have to do is to go to your trusted store to return the glass jars and take more yogurt with the price of the packaging discounted. The cleaning of machinery and packaging is done with biodegradable products.
“I have been making artisanal yogurt for many years. One day we decided to market it by recovering the practice of returning packaging to the store.”
