Farmer of Ruma Nou and Sant Josep
Lamb of Ruma is the seal with which the ecological meat of lamb raised in the farms of Ruma Nou and Sant Josep, in Ferreries, is commercialized. This project began in 2001 when the farmers decided to switch from cow’s milk to sheep’s meat and adapt the production to the conditions of their land: 150 ha of hills and coast certified with organic agriculture and livestock, one of the first large farms of the island to obtain this certification. Their commitment to a sustainable system makes it possible to guarantee the conservation of the biodiversity and the natural values of the farm, and to obtain a high-quality pasture, one of the pillars on which their work is based.
The other pillar is the breeding and enhancement of sheep for almost 10 years. Among the main creators is the farmer Pito Barber, who was born on the Sant Josep farm and has dedicated his whole life to the care of these lands. The result, one of the best quality organic lamb meat in Menorca.
