Milk from the Menorquina red cattle breed is the star ingredient of Rural RM ice cream, the family-run project of Cati Mingorance and her husband Tomeu Ramon, the managers of the Finca Alpútzer Vell farm, in the area of Menorca known a Ca La Pilar.

The project arose five years ago, when due to low prices of raw materials they decided to move into the milk sales and ice cream production business. Training was first needed, followed by endless experimentation and the invaluable opinions of friends and family until perfecting their recipe. They now offer direct sales, take part in food fairs and supply small restaurants, hotels and supermarkets around the island with their ice cream made from local produce and with the true flavour of the Menorcan countryside.

Precisely 15 Menorquina breed cows that feed on forage and grain across Alpútzer Vell’s 30 hectares make all this possible. Rustic, robust and well adapted to the climate and geography, the Menorquina red cattle breed produces less, but higher quality milk, thus ensuring the quality of Rural RM ice cream.

“Behind each ice cream is the thorough work that gives the product its true value. Well-treated and well-fed free-roaming cattle that produce superior milk.”
